2018 year of Italian food in the world: This was announced by the Minister of Culture and Tourism. Dario Franceschini and Coldiretti president Moncalvo. They were the ones who signed the memorandum of understanding for the enhancement of the territory, focusing on Italian food as a heritage to be defended.
The occasion was one of the most apt ones, namely the conference "Biodiversity and Agriculture. Multifunctionality: from environment to society" organized by Univerde Foundation, Coldiretti e Friendly Countryside and which featured the authoritative presence of Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, Giorgio Calabrese and Domenico De Masi.

Tourists ambassadors of made in Italy in the world

The president of Coldiretti was clear about this: tourists are the real ambassadors in the world of Italian food, a form of communication and dissemination of made in Italy that will lead exports to reach the goal of 50 billion euros in 2020.

In 2018 year of Italian food in the world, space for biodiversity

Enhancing the culture of places, territoriality and biodiversity: these are the messages that will be launched during the 2018 year of the Italian food of the world.

The goal is to raise awareness among citizens and businesses of the need to enhance local, cultural and natural peculiarities, specialties and traditions through synergistic involvement among cultural, tourism, sports, agricultural and agro-tourism, as well as creative and entertainment enterprises, and traditional agricultural products.

A holistic view of the project

Not only food and not only tourism: the project of the 2018 as a year dedicated to Italian food aims to involve a bit all the protagonists of the different supply chains, productive, tourist, cultural. And it is with this in mind that the facilities of the agricultural entrepreneurs will be linked to archaeological research activities, with the intention of promoting a historical knowledge of the area and enhancing the value of the discoveries made, as well as continuing in an activity of monitoring and mapping of agricultural areas of cultural, landscape, historical and archaeological interest.

What the protocol provides for

The protocol will focus on the use of typical local agricultural and agri-food products in mass catering.
The educational part of the agreement will see the launching of tourist and educational routes, with pedestrian, bicycle, equestrian, moto-tourist, river and railway itineraries, specially designed to introduce tourists from all over the world to the Italian territory, with its different geographical areas and with its typical agricultural and food production, peculiar to each area.

In the year of the sustainable tourism, therefore, great attention will go to the defense of the italian agricultural and food heritage and rescue from extinction some species and some products exclusive to our country that are not only good but also valuable for health.

These include the purple carrot from Polignano or the white one from Piedmont, the barattiere, an ancient variety of cucumber from Apulia, the chili pepper from Diamante, the red onion from Cavasso Nuovo, the corvino corn from Lombardy, the turquoise potato from Abruzzo, the puzzone cheese from Moena in Trentino Alto Adige, the motzetta or dried meat typical of the Valle D'Aosta, and many other extraordinary products, symbols of an Italy that still wins at the table.
