August 24 is a date that will be etched in the history of world gastronomy. But not because it opens what purports to be the most exclusive restaurant in the world, but because the race to create the most inaccessible dining experience possible has officially begun.
Mesa 1 is the new restaurant at the W Punta de Mita resort, located on the west coast of Mexico. Already the resort is one of the super-luxury ones ($30 for breakfast buffet, to be clear) but the new restaurant breaks all records.
Located in the center of a small island accessed via a walkway made of stones at the water's edge. Stones that, when the guests are all seated at the table, disappear under the water.
Only one table accommodates the 18 guests, but not an ordinary table, it was carved from the immense trunk of a Parota tree and carved by hand to achieve the desired surface.
But let's talk about the meal: seven courses for each guest, each dish is exclusive to that person, and all dishes are created on the spot, in front of the 18 lucky mortals. The menus are those of traditional Mexican cuisine, with added fish and shellfish from the Pacific and other delicacies of more star-studded taste.
The new restaurant is so exclusive that so far there is only one photo available, disclosed by the property via the website. It is to be assumed that guests will be prohibited (politely) from taking photos of the place and especially of the dishes served. So forget about reading the review on Trip Advisor.
At this point we remain in eager anticipation of challengers who would like to try their hand at qhe competition for the world's most exclusive restaurant. Some ideas for Italian food and wine entrepreneurs:
- steakhouse on the slopes of Mount Etna, with meat cooked directly in the volcano's lava, thanks to a titanium grill-mount system;
- restaurant-batiscafo going down to 5,000 meters in the Calypso Trench in the Ionian Sea, the deepest point in the Mediterranean, with abyssal seafood cuisine;
- trattoria at the top of Mont Blanc. Fat-laden mountain cuisine accompanied by lots of alcohol. You arrive by helicopter but descend by paraglider, so you dispose of your lunch right away.
